If you haven't already, take a moment to watch the video with Manny and Patricia Oliver and then please sign "The Lawsuit for Survival" petition!

Why We Brought the Olivers' First-of-Its-Kind Lawsuit

Joaquin Oliver had the right to live.

Human rights law required that the United States protect Joaquin’s life.

But the U.S. allowed a deeply troubled 19-year-old to buy the military-style assault rifle that he used to commit the massacre at Joaquin’s school.

It's time for accountability. And action.

That's why GAGV recently filed Joaquin Oliver v. USA, a human rights action against the U.S. government on behalf of Joaquin and his parents, Manny and Patricia Oliver.

“We’ve tried everything else to rein in gun violence, but there hasn’t been meaningful change," Manny Oliver said when the case was filed.

The Lawsuit for Survival was filed in the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), a body of the Organization of States.

We argue that international human rights law requires the U.S. to prevent gun manufacturers, distributors, and dealers from recklessly making and selling guns in ways that cause deaths and injuries.

The U.S. government will be on trial for putting gun rights over human rights.

We have filed for an expedited hearing of the case and we'll keep you updated!

Why Global Action on Gun Violence

GAGV brings bold, new actions to end gun violence that avoid constraining U.S. gun politics, like the Olivers' Lawsuit for Survival.

We're galvanizing new global pressures, partnering with the international community to reform the gun industry and stop gun violence, using impact litigation, human rights actions, and advocacy.

GAGV represents Mexico in a lawsuit against Smith & Wesson and other major gun manufacturers to hold them accountable for supplying traffickers who arm the cartels.

It's the first suit brought by a national government against the gun industry.

We're also co-counsel to a second Mexico suit against five Arizona gun dealers that participated in trafficking military-style weapons and ammunition to drug cartels in Mexico.

It’s the first lawsuit to bring RICO claims against gun companies.

In addition, we're foreign counsel in a class action in Canada against Smith & Wesson for failing to make a gun without feasible safety features.

It’s the first suit against a U.S. gun manufacturer brought in another country—where the unfair law that shields the gun industry doesn’t apply.

GAGV is testifying in international bodies, shining a spotlight on the disproportionate role that the United States gun industry plays in gun trafficking and the problems gun violence exacerbates globally.

GAGV's new pressure points are getting noticed and are having an impact.
